Many parents fund part of their adoption with the help of
organizations, friends, and other interested individuals. Here are a few
suggestions for ways to help fund your adoption:
Employer Adoption Benefits
-
Email SRC at
sharonsrc@earthlink.net for a
list of organizations providing adoption assistance!
-
Apply for an adoption grant. One possible resource for
an adoption grant is His Kids Too - a non-profit organization started by
adoptive parents who desire to help both the children in orphanages and
parents who desire to adopt them. They offer $2000 grants for adoption
of one child, and $4000 grants for adoption of two children. In order
to apply to them, you must be working with one of their approved
facilitation companies or agencies, listed on their web site. SRC has been
approved by His Kids Too, and listed as one of their preferred
companies. More
information on their adoption grant program can be found at their web
site: www.hiskidstoo.org
-
Check with your accountant or the IRS website www.irs.gov
about the recent tax law changes regarding international adoption. For
adoptions finalized in 2002, a maximum tax credit of $10,000. applies.
The ceiling for the adoptive parents' income has also been raised to
$150,000 for full credit, so more
families will qualify for this tax credit! Another good source for
info on this new tax law is the Eastern European Adoption Coalition
Ukraine-L mail group - if you are not a member yet, you can subscribe from
the EEAC home page at www.eeadopt.org
-
Create a newsletter and a tax-deductible account for
donations from donors. Interested friends, relatives, and other
individuals or organizations can make a tax-deductible donation to your
adoption expenses through an official non-profit organization. If you
are working with SRC, Inc., your supporters can donate directly to SRC, Inc.
and earmark the funds for your adoption. Since SRC is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit corporation, all donated funds are tax-deductible with the
IRS. His Kids Too also has an Adoption Bank for parents who would like
to have an account and receive tax-deductible donations from supporters, and
this Adoption Bank is open to adoptive parents working with other
organizations or agencies. For more information about our Donation Program,
